I've always heard the phrase: "you can't go home again" and though I dearly love my family, moving back to my childhood home for the summer has indeed been a challenge which has proved the phrase to be accurate. While it is nice to be back in the house with my family (most of the time), over the last two years I had fully adjusted to living on my own. I like being able to play whatever music I want, watch the shows I want, and prepare the foods I want. Moving back home makes me feel very much like a child again, though I just turned 27 a few weeks ago. But, it will all be just fine and I'm only going to be here for a couple of months. I placed a hold on an apartment in Columbus only 2 miles from campus and almost literally next door to my girlfriend, which I am very excited about. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy the time near to my family, especially starting next week as we go to the first tractor pull of many this season. I will be driving the tractor at all of the events this year, which is going to be great fun. I'll let you all know where you can find out more about that later.
This summer is full of other adjustments too, like ditching my trend of owning only Windows PCs and buying my first Apple MacBook, which was really cool. My iPhone has been really great and switching to a Mac has been an extension of that slick user experience.
Another adjustment is the transition from teacher to student. I have officially scheduled classes for Ohio State's first-ever Fall Semester, which is a full-circle kind of moment for me. I remember my first term at OSU nine years ago like it was only yesterday. I will be taking human anatomy as well as some other pre-medical coursework that will be very interesting and challenging. I can't wait to dig in to the coursework as an adult instead of the kid that started there nearly a decade ago.
The biggest adjustment I've been making is regarding my sight. I recently treated myself to LASIK surgery to finally rid myself of glasses and it has proved to be a fantastic investment! I very highly recommend OSU's Havener Eye Institute if any of you are interested in having the surgery done yourself. I now have better-than-20/20 vision in both eyes and never again have to worry about my glasses which is amazingly awesome! I had a fantastic experience with my Ophthalmologist and he really inspired me to look more into the field. I would love to be able to operate on eyes and help people maintain and improve the sense of sight as he has done for me. He also welcomed me to shadow him at any time this summer and beyond, which I am eager to begin doing.
Change always involves a lot of adjustments, but I'm truly enjoying them. I'll continue to blog throughout the summer as I gear up for school. Thanks for reading.
